Roasted butternut squash and everything bagel seasoning meet to create one exceptionally tasty and easy side dish.
Everything but the Bagel Sesame Seasoning Blend
Have you heard about Trader Joe’s Everything but the Bagel Sesame Seasoning blend? I had seen it a few times while shopping at Trader Joe’s but hadn’t thought much of it.
However, I started seeing people on Instagram showing us their favorite ways to incorporate the seasoning mix into various recipes. There were a number of recipes using this unique blend that I thought were really interesting including avocado toast (YUM!), pumpkin seeds, fingerling potatoes and homemade bagels. I finally decided I needed to pick some up.
If you haven’t already picked some of this up yourself, you need to run to the store and pick some up ASAP! It’s a blend of sea salt flakes, dried minced garlic, dried minced onion, white sesame seeds, black sesame seeds and poppy seeds. There’s so much flavor, it tastes amazing and is really versatile.
So, I went and got my first Everything but the Bagel Seasoning and I definitely have a new favorite! And, in addition to tasting awesome on a bagel, I think it would taste great sprinkled on chicken or steak. Oh, and I’m definitely going to be trying it on avocado toast!
Let’s Try This Seasoning With Butternut Squash
For my first go around with this seasoning mix, I decided on a very simple recipe. I liberally sprinkled some of the mix on 1-inch cubes of butternut squash, tossed them with olive oil and roasted it all to tasty perfection. Let me tell you, it did not disappoint.
It’s a really great looking side dish as a result of the caramelization on the squash. And, it was so incredibly easy to prepare and so full of great flavor. It’s a side dish you will definitely want on regular rotation.
Do I Have to Use Butternut Squash?
You do have options, although I really like using butternut squash because grocery stores usually have pre-cut butternut squash available. And, even if there isn’t pre-cut butternut squash available, this squash has a thinner skin than many other squashes (say, like an Acorn squash), so it is easier to peel (just use a vegetable peeler) and cut.
I think the best alternative to a butternut squash is the sweet potato. Again, you can often find pre-cut sweet potatoes at the local grocery store for ease of preparation for this recipe. And, the sweet potato also has the sweeter flavor that you find in a butternut squash. A very solid substitute and potentially easier to find in the grocery store during certain times of the year.
So, the next time you are looking for a tasty, beautiful-looking and easy-to-prepare side dish – look no further than this Everything Bagel Roasted Butternut Squash!
Tips and Tricks for Making Everything Bagel Roasted Butternut Squash
- I highly recommend using fresh butternut squash versus frozen. The frozen squash will not stand up well to roasting and will turn out soggy.
- This recipe is already very easy to make, but to make it even easier, use pre-cut fresh butternut squash.
- If you don’t have access to pre-cut butternut squash, you can just use a vegetable peeler to take off the skin before cutting into cubes.
- Lining your sheet pan with parchment paper will make clean up super easy and will prevent the squash from sticking to the pan.
- If you aren’t near a Trader Joe’s store, you should be able to find everything bagel seasoning at any of your local grocery stores.
