A Tropical Sunshine Smoothie and a Book Review

Greek yogurt is a powerhouse food that has so many nutritional benefits.  When incorporated into your diet on a regular basis it can help you to lose weight, lower your blood pressure and help with digestive issues, to name just a few benefits. Whether you’re looking to lose a few pounds or you just want to improve your health, The Greek Yogurt Diet is a wonderful resource that provides great information about all the health benefits of Greek yogurt in an easy to read format.  The book then goes on to show you how to incorporate Greek yogurt into your diet with a great selection of delicious recipes with everything from breakfast to dessert.

When you delve into the book, you’ll learn that just one cup of yogurt everyday can have a significant impact on your health.  Along with the delicious recipes, there’s also a conversion chart to show you how to substitute Greek yogurt for other ingredients like butter, sour cream and mayonnaise.  A great suggestion in the book is to always use plain Greek yogurt and stir in your own toppings and natural sweeteners rather than buying the pre-sweetened and flavored yogurts at the grocery store.  There are numerous suggestions for toppings in the book, including fresh fruit, maple syrup or honey.  By stirring in your own ingredients, you’re able to control the quality and the nutrition.

There are a number of delicious smoothie recipes in the book and this tropical sunshine smoothie was created by co-author of The Greek Yogurt diet, Dr. Sonali Ruder.  She also is the author of the blog, The Foodie Physician, where you can find many delicious and healthful recipes.  Now back to smoothies.  Smoothies are a great way to start your day, they’re quick and easy to make and you can pack them full of nutrients.  This tropical sunshine smoothie has a really bright flavor from the orange and pineapple and the yogurt and banana make it extra creamy.  The flax seed is optional, but I recommend it because it give the smoothie a slightly nutty flavor, plus it gives you a good serving of omega-3s and fiber.

I highly recommend this book for anyone interested in losing weight and improving their health.  You can purchase it at Amazon for your Kindle or in hardcover.

Tropical Sunshine Smoothie

  • 1 cup diced pineapple (I used frozen)
  • 1 medium orange, peeled and chopped
  • 1/2 banana, peeled
  • 1/2 cup plain, nonfat Greek yogurt
  • 1 cup ice
  • 2 tbsp ground flax seed (optional)

Place all of the ingredients in a blender and blend until smooth.

Garnish glass with an orange slice or a piece of pineapple, if desired.

ENJOY!
