A while back, I was watching an old Julia Child show on PBS (I think I was seriously avoiding doing something actually productive).  She had a guest chef on the episode who was Italian and he was making pizza from scratch, including a really simple sauce.  And by simple, I mean four ingredient simple.

It started with canned whole San Marzano tomatoes which you crush with your hands.  Then you add a good splash of olive oil, fresh garlic and fresh basil, plus salt and pepper.  That’s it.  It looked so good I wanted to try it myself, so I made a few notes in my phone so I wouldn’t forget and tucked the idea away for later.

When I finally got around to making this sauce, I was so happy that I did.  It was super simple, literally taking just a few minutes, and it tasted so fresh and delicious.  It has just the right amount of garlic and the basil really adds to the fresh flavor.  I definitely will not be using store bought sauce on my pizzas anymore.  It’s perfect to use on any of your favorite pizzas, whether it’s sausage, pepperoni or a simple cheese pizza.
