This cake may be super decadent, but trust me, it’s not difficult to make at all.  If you gather all of your ingredients before you start, it will be ready for the oven in about the same time as a cake mix.  Then while the cake is cooling, the chocolate ganache comes together quickly and so easily.  Trust me, it’s foolproof.

  • Finally it’s covered in a decadent, yet easy 2 ingredient chocolate ganache.

Death By Chocolate Pound Cake #Chotoberfest
Prep Time 15 minutes
Cook Time 1 hour
Additional Time 40 minutes
Total Time 1 hour 55 minutes

Ingredients

  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 2 cups sugar
  • 4 eggs
  • 2 tsp vanilla
  • 3 cups all purpose flour
  • 2/3 cup cocoa powder
  • 1/2 tsp baking soda
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1 cup half and half
  • 2 cups semi sweet chocolate chips, divided
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 1/8 tsp salt

Instructions

  • Grease and flour a bundt pan.
  • Cream together butter and sugar in mixing bowl until fluffy.
  • Beat in eggs, one at a time, until well incorporated.
  • Alternate beating in flour mixture and half and half, little at a time, starting and ending with the flour.
  • Gently stir in 1 cup chocolate chips.
  • Pour batter into prepared bundt pan, smoothing until batter is even.
  • Place pan in cold oven and set temperature to 350 degrees.
  • Bake for 60 minutes, or until a toothpick comes out clean.
  • Remove cake from oven and cool in the pan for 15 minutes.
  • Gently run a knife around the pan and remove to a plate to finish cooling.
  • While cake is cooling make the ganache.
  • Heat heavy cream and 1/8 tsp salt in a sauce pan over medium low heat until it comes to a simmer.
  • Turn off heat.
  • Stir in remaining 1 cup chocolate chips, cover and let sit for about 5 minutes, until chocolate has melted.
  • Stir until cream and chocolate are well mixed.
  • Let ganache sit for 15 minutes and then pour evenly over the cake.
