Italian Turkey Burger

I was so excited when recently Red Gold Tomatoes sent me this great Summer Grillin’ Party Kit.  There were six cans of their seasoned diced tomatoes with great seasonings like green chilies, lime juice and cilantro, garlic and olive oil and basil, garlic and oregano.  Plus there was an apron and some great recipes for using the tomatoes in burgers.

I decided to try the Italian Turkey Burgers first.  They sounded so delicious and so easy to make.  What I loved was that there was no chopping involved!  All I had to do was drain the tomatoes really well and then mix them and few other ingredients with the ground turkey.  Then I grilled them up and had some super tasty burgers.  The tomatoes gave the burgers great flavor and kept them super moist.  To make the burgers even tastier, I brushed the buns with garlic butter and put them on the grill for a few minutes. It was total burger perfection!

I also want to share with you the Facebook giveaway that Red Gold Tomatoes is having.  Go to Red Gold Tomatoes by July 23rd and enter for your chance to win a Red Gold Apron OR the grand prize, a large Big Green Egg Grill!

Italian Turkey Burger

  • 1 lb ground turkey (I used 99% lean turkey breast)
  • 1 (14.5 oz) can Red Gold diced tomatoes with basil garlic and oregano, well drained
  • 1 egg, beaten
  • 1/4 cup bread crumbs
  • 1/4 cup grated parmesan cheese
  • salt and pepper, to taste
  • olive oil
  • 4 slices fresh mozzarella cheese
  • fresh basil leaves
  • 4 hamburger buns
  • 3 tbsp butter
  • 1 large clove garlic

Combine ground turkey, tomatoes, egg, bread crumbs, parmesan and salt and pepper in a mixing bowl.

Mix until well combined.

Form into 4 patties and brush each patty with olive oil (this will prevent them from sticking to the grill).

Preheat grill to medium high heat.

Grill patties for 6 minutes.  Flip patties and top with mozzarella, grill for another 6 minutes, until cooked through.

Meanwhile, melt butter in a small dish.

Crush garlic clove and add to butter, let sit for a few minutes.

Brush garlic butter on each of the buns.

Grill buns for a few minutes, until toasted.

Serve burgers on the toasted buns and top with fresh basil leaves.

ENJOY!
