The Perfect Fresh Strawberry Margarita (Cocktail or Mocktail)

This Strawberry Margarita will knock your socks off. A mix of fresh strawberry puree and margarita mix set the stage for a refreshing cocktail or mocktail.

What do you do when you have 2 pounds of strawberries sitting in your refrigerator and you have no plan for them? Well… you make strawberry margaritas….of course!

I had strawberries leftover from Alex’s grad party and I was afraid we weren’t going to be able to eat them before they went bad, so I decided to concoct the perfect strawberry margarita.

ingredients needed to make the margaritas

I like margaritas, but they’re often too sweet for me. By mixing fresh strawberry puree with prepared margarita mix, I ended up with a mix that wasn’t too sweet and had just the right amount of  tang.

If you like your margaritas on the sweeter side, you could add a little simple syrup or agave nectar.

Strawberries in the blender before pureeing

I opted to use prepared margarita mix because that kept it simple. I like to use Trader Joe’s margarita mix because it’s not as sweet as some others and it uses sugar rather than high fructose corn syrup.

As the title of the post implies, this is perfect as a cocktail or as a mocktail. Alex had one as a mocktail and gave it a thumbs up!  This yields about 6 cups of mix, so it’s enough for about 12 drinks. So make up a pitcher to enjoy outside with friends on a warm summer evening!

Tips and Tricks

  • For the best flavor, use a quality tequila, such as Don Julio Blanco, 1800 Silver or Patron Silver.
  • Fresh strawberries are highly recommended, but if they’re out of season, frozen strawberries will work, just make sure you defrost them before pureeing.
  • To make one large batch, combine pureed strawberries mixture with the alcohol in a 1 – 12 cup container or 2 – 6 cup containers. Transfer as needed to a serving pitcher or large punch bowl.
  • To make this cocktail a mocktail, simply omit the tequila and Grand Marnier.
