Stitch Fix Review #1 and #2

A couple of months ago I finally jumped on the band wagon and signed up for my first Stitch Fix.  After reading about it all over the internet for over a year, I finally decided that I wanted to join in on the fun!

So what is Stitch Fix?  It’s a personal styling service and it’s a great way to add new clothes to your wardrobe.  When you sign up for your first fix, you’ll fill out a detailed personal profile so that your stylist has a good idea of your preferences, including your size, style and budget.   For a $20.00 styling fee, your stylist will hand-pick five clothing and/or accessory items that meet your criteria. Once you’ve signed up, you’ll get your first fix within a few weeks.  You can schedule a Stitch Fix to arrive automatically once a month or more or less frequently, whatever’s convenient for you.

Once your package arrives, you have three days to try everything on and see how it works with your existing wardrobe.  If there’s anything you don’t like, just put it in the postage paid envelope that’s included and send it back.  The $20.00 styling fee will be applied to anything that you do purchase and if you purchase all five items, you receive a 25% discount.  If you refer other people to sign up, you’ll receive a $25.00 credit for each person, that can be used on future purchases.

I have now received two fixes and I have to say, I LOVE this service!  It’s so fun to get a box full of surprises! Let me show you what I’ve gotten so far.

Stitch Fix #1

My first fix came the beginning of May and all of the pieces I got are great transition pieces.

The Abrianna Longsleeve Knit Cardigan is the perfect weight for spring and summer and it fit me perfectly.  I kept this one and I’ve already gotten a lot of use out of it.  It goes with so many things that are already in my closet.

When I first saw this Berneen Printed Dolman Sleeve Top, I wasn’t so sure about it.  Dolman sleeve tops often don’t work well with my body type, but the fabric is fairly thin and it drapes just perfectly.  It turned out to be very slimming on me, so of course I kept it!

I had the same concerns with the Corinna Striped Dolman Top, but it also draped perfectly and didn’t make me look too big on top.  This top is a very light sweater, which makes it a perfect transition piece for spring, fall and even a chilly summer day.  I also like that depending on the accessories and the pants that I wear, I can dress this top up or down.  I also kept this one.

I thought for sure that this Trinidad Chevron Print Henley Top would be too boxy for me, but my stylist, Kim, got this one right, too.  This top is actually fairly slimming and I like that it’s longer in the back than the front.  It’s absolutely adorable with white jeans.  I had to keep it.

I’m usually not big on blazers, so I almost sent this Torin French Terrry Stripe Blazer back.  But then I started to do the math, if I sent the blazer back, I wouldn’t get the 25% discount.  If I sent the blazer back, the total cost of my Stitch Fix would only be $7.00 less.  Since the blazer was priced at $74.00, I thought the extra $7.00 to keep it was a pretty good deal.  Let me tell you, I’m so glad I kept it!  One of my big issues with blazers is that I have a hard time with the fit.  Usually if they fit across the bust they’re too big everywhere else.  This blazer fits like it was custom made for me, I can button it without it pulling at all.  I’ve already worn it a couple of times.

My first fix was incredibly successful and I couldn’t wait to receive my second fix!

 Stitch Fix #2

My second fix was just as much fun as my first.  All of the pieces this month are so versatile, they can be dressed up or down.  The total cost for everything was $282.00, but after the subtracting the $20.00 styling fee and the 25% discount, my cost if I kept all five items was $191.50.

Mina Split Neck Blouse ($38.00) – This shirt is a great example of why I love having a stylist pick things out for me, she takes me outside of my box.  I tend to be drawn to knit tops and almost never gravitate toward blousy fabrics like this crepe fabric.  But as soon as I tried it on, I fell in love with it.  The color and pattern are perfect for me and it’s super light and airy, perfect for summer.  I loved it dressed up a little with the white capris and the casual look with the shorts is such an easy summer look.  Verdict:  Kept

Rosco Floral Print Crochet Detail Tank ($58.00) –  I had actually pinned this top to my Stitch Fix Pinterest board (to help your stylist further understand your style, you can set up a Pinterest board with things you like).  It also is made out of that crepe fabric that I don’t typically gravitate towards, but I loved the racer back and the crochet detail.  When I tried this on, it was on the verge of being boxy, but it lays really nicely in the back and, as I said, I love the crochet detail.  I love it on it’s own, but it also layers up great with a sweater so I’ll be able to wear this into the fall.  Verdict:  Kept

Cathy Maxi Dress ($74.00) – This is another item that I’d pinned to my Stitch Fix and I was so excited to see that my stylist had included it.  I absolutely love wearing maxi dresses in the summer, they’re so versatile.  You can totally dress them up with the right accessories but they’re equally great for throwing on when you’re heading out to run errands.  I love the pattern of this dress and the fit is perfect.  The fabric is super soft and so it’s super comfy.  I see myself wearing this a lot this summer!  Verdict:  Kept

Milo Knit Top ($48.00) – As I mentioned, I love knit tops, so I was happy to see this one in my fix.  I love the fit, it’s fitted without being too tight.  I also love the solid color and the keyhole detail in the back, it takes a fairly simple top and gives it some nice interest.  I love it with the khakis and I think it will be equally cute with a pair of shorts.  Verdict:  Kept

William Dress ($64.00) – I considered not keeping this dress. Overall, I adore this dress, but when I first tried it on, I wasn’t sure about the fit across the bust.  After trying it on with a couple of different bras, I found one that works and was satisfied with the fit.  This dress is made out of a beautiful, flowy crepe fabric.  I love the casual look with the jean jacket and the flat sandels, which I think is a fun and easy look for going out for dinner.  By dressing it up with the right shoes and accessories, I also think it would be perfect to wear to a wedding or other dressy occasion. I also see myself wearing this quite a bit.  Verdict:  Kept

Well, two months of  Stitch Fix and two months of keeping everything.  My stylist, Kim, is knocking it out of the park!  I already can’t wait for next month!
