With just 3 ingredients, a perfectly tart, refreshing flavor and just a hint of sweetness, this is the perfect skinny margarita.
I like margaritas, but I don’t like overly sweet drinks of any kind and margaritas are often waaay too syrupy sweet for me. I actually cringe over most margarita mixes that you buy at the store. The margaritas that I like are more of the craft cocktail type (I know, diva), a margarita that’s been made with quality ingredients like fresh lime juice rather than a pre-made mix out of a bottle and not a lot of sugar or other sweetener. I actually want to taste the tequila and I like my drink on the tart side.
So….since Cinco de Mayo is just around the corner, which is a perfect day to enjoy a perfect margarita, I want to share with you all how I make the perfect skinny margarita.
A couple of things I love about my margarita is 1) it only has 3 ingredients and 2) there’s no added sugar other than the sugar in the small amount of triple sec in the recipe. That means that not only are these easy to make, they also don’t have a staggering amount of calories in them, far fewer than the 400-600 calories a restaurant margarita can contain.
A couple of important things when you’re making these margaritas, first of all, please, please, please, use fresh lime juice. I know you can buy bottled lime juice, but it’s just not going to taste as good. Take the couple of extra minutes to squeeze your own fresh juice. Secondly, it’s very important to shake these in a cocktail shaker with LOTS of ice before pouring them into a serving glass filled with ice. Doing that will insure that the flavor is just right. The ice in the cocktail shaker will dilute the drink and mellow out the flavor. The tequila won’t be too strong and the lime juice won’t be too tart and it will be icy cold. You also want to make sure to use the triple sec, it will give the cocktail just a hint of sweetness, which is perfect.
